Renewable Energy Technician

The Renewable Energy Technician program is focused on solar energy electrical power generation.  Students enrolled in this course of study will receive instruction in DC/AC power circuits, electrical code and electrical wiring methods.  Hands-on sessions for the installation of solar photovoltaic systems (sun to electricity) will be studied.

  • The student will design, stage, and install commercial and residential electrical wiring for stand alone and grid tie systems.
  • Use logical thinking and math to interpret blueprints and layout design.
  • Work in an entry-level position in the solar electrical generation field.
  • Prepared for apprenticeship, immediate employment, and further  education.

Generally, pay scales for the actual solar panel installation are in the $15.00 to $18.00 per hour range.  Systems that are tied to the utility grid (XCEL) require a Master Electrician.
